The Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation
has settled into a charming artist’s
studio, built by Molinié in 1912. This very
beautiful venue, with its listed glass roof,
opened in 2003 and recognised of
National Interest as of March 2002, it
houses some of the photographer’s works
and personal items, including his first
camera. Films and documentaries on
Cartier-Bresson are shown daily. The
Foundation also organises a series of
free, bimonthly Conversations about
photography.
This venue is also open to other talents. It
hosts three temporary exhibitions per year.
The Illuminations exhibition, which runs
until July 27, presents a series of drawings
by illustrator Saul Steinberg (1914-1999),
At the turn of the 20th century,
Apollinaire, Gauguin and Matisse left
Montmartre for the carrefour Vavin.
They set up their HQ in two cafes: Le
"Dôme" and "La Coupole". Today their
Bohemian spirit is still very present in
theatres and the legendary “brasseries”
at Montparnasse, such as “Le Select”,
“La Rotonde” and “La Closerie des
Lilas”, where Picasso, Hemingway,
Sartre and Beauvoir loved to linger. The
56th floor of the Montparnasse Tower,
built between 1969 and 1973, offers an
outstanding view over Paris.
A l’aube du 20ème siècle, Apollinaire,
Gauguin et Matisse délaissent
Montmartre pour le carrefour Vavin.
Deux cafés deviennent leur QG : le
Dôme et la Coupole. Aujourd’hui, cet
esprit bohème règne toujours sur les
théâtres et les brasseries mythiques de
Montparnasse, comme Le Select, La
Rotonde ou la Closerie des Lilas, où
Picasso, Hemingway, Sartre et Beauvoir
aimaient s’attarder. Quant à la Tour
Montparnasse, construite entre 1969 et
1973, son 56ème étage offre une vue
sublime sur Paris.
