Romantics
They say that the terrace of the Café de la Mairie (1) is the most
“Italian” in Paris, with its cane chairs and facing the Saint-Sulpice’s
church. The best time to go? Early morning. Later, you will
have to queue up for a table! Another romantic location: the terrace
of the Hôtel Amour (2). Very close to the Rue des Martyrs,
it is tucked away in a charming tree lined courtyard. Ideal for a
brunch or a coffee with friends.

Bucolic
A stroll in one of Paris’s gardens is a delight in the morning or at
the end of the day. And for a pause, the Jardin du Luxembourg,
opt for the refreshment stall’s terrace near the swings. The menu

includes snacks, hot and cold drinks, and the show is provided
by the basketball players! (1)
In the Jardin des Tuileries, the Café Renard (2) is an institution.
Open until 11.30pm, this peaceful oasis offers salads, sandwiches,
grilled fare, waffles and pancakes. Also in the Tuileries’s
Gardens is Le Saut du Loup (3), the Musée des Arts Déco’s new
restaurant. With its terrace looking out on the Eiffel Tower is
open from midday till 2am.

Aquatic
A terrace overlooking the Seine: how wonderful! Here are three
of the best. First, Le Quai (1). Moored below the Musée d’Orsay,
this former barge is now a fashionable restaurant. Its attractions
include a magnificent view, carefully thought-out decor and a
sophisticated menu.
Different boat, different atmosphere: fascinating vessel and
urban garden, the River Café (2) brings to mind a yacht club on
the eastern seaboard of the United States. Two minutes out of
central Paris, its terrace combines a teak pontoon and contemporary
furniture, natural colour canvas parasols and overlooking
the tree lined banks of the Île Saint-Germain. The chef is the

young and talented Mathieu Scherrer.
You will also love the Point Éphémère (3): on the banks of the
Canal Saint Martin, its terrace is the haunt of local artists. No
wonder: it offers some excellent dishes at modest prices.

Discreet
The terrace of the Delicabar (1) is tucked away above the Bon
Marché’s Grande Epicerie. Enjoy the delicious food produced by
Sébastien Gaudard, in a colourful setting designed by Claudio
Colucci.
Another enchanting venue is the Café Suédois (2), the café of
the Swedish Cultural Centre, located in a magnificent private
house in the heart of the Marais district. Difficult to resist the attractive
paved courtyard, the garden furniture, the “home
made” sandwiches, vegetables au gratin and cinnamon-flavoured
brioches.

Elevated
While exploring Montmartre, take time out for lunch or dinner
at the Diapason (1), the seventh-and-top-floor restaurant of the
Terrass Hotel, open throughout the summer. It offers cuisine by
Julien Rocheteau, greenery and a panoramic view of Paris.
Another fine view of the capital is that of the café known as
La Mer à Boire (2). Facing Belleville’s last vineyards, it has
a large paved terrace with a bird’s-eye view of the city.
